Description
RACES sentence and paragraph frames are designed using a scaffolded approach to support your emerging writers. Students will learn how to write text-dependent responses, and their answers will be thorough, elaborate, and organized.
*PLEASE NOTE: This is the same as RACES Writing with Sentence and Paragraph Frames but also includes links to Google Drive digital versions and an editable PowerPoint file of the student pages.
Everything you need to teach this step by step process is here, including lesson plans, a PowerPoint presentation, guided notes, sentence frames, paragraph frames, a rubric, and a bonus file.
What will the 2-3 day lessons look like?
- Students will follow the PowerPoint, filling in the guided notes. They will learn how to closely read a prompt, and they will learn several types of short response prompts that are commonly used.
- Then they will learn the parts of a RACES format for paragraph writing, including why each component of a RACES response is important.
- Next, you will read a short passage together. Students will write using sentence frames. This will help them learn the nuances of language. It will also give them a confidence boost going forward.
- You will then model how to use sentence stems and paragraph frames to write a short response together. A sample response is included; however, you can edit the answers, if you’d like.
- Students will use the same method and another RACES frame to write a short response independently. A rubric is included so they can check their work or turn it in to be assessed.
What is included in this zip file?
- A link to two digital files in Google Drive
- An editable version of the slideshow and student notes
- A 100 slide PowerPoint presentation
- Complete lesson plans
- Black and white guided notes
- Color notes (optional)
- A bonus file with blank templates for future use
