Description
Have you ever struggled with the wording when trying to write a question based on one ELA standard? Or have you ever have a hard time quickly coming up with a bell-ringer or exit question based on a specific skill? Do you tend to ask the SAME questions all the time?
I know I do! That’s why I needed these Common Core Standards Sentence Stems and Prompts cards. I printed mine out and put them on a little jump-ring. Now I’m never at a loss for questions!
This resource includes hundreds of sentence stems and prompts for every ELA standard. They include lists of academic vocabulary words that go with each standard. The stems are organized by CCSS; however, the questions are valuable and can really be used no matter which standards your state requires.
How Can I Use These Cards?
- Use a prompt as a bell ringer or an exit question.
- Refer to them during reading conferences.
- Use them to write your guiding question for each day’s lesson.
- Give each student a card and have them choose two or three of the prompts to answer. If a stem has a blank space, allow students to complete the question and then answer.
- Give a set of cards or a single card to groups during literature circles. Have each student in the group use the stems to write one question on a sheet of paper. Then have them pass their question to the right. That person should then answer that question.
- Use one card per learning station.
- My favorite way to use them? I simply have them nearby while planning and writing tests!
I hope you find them as useful as I do! 🙂
