HOW DOES SPIRAL REVIEW WORK?
Spiral review, or spiral practice, means your students are circling back to practice skills you’ve already covered. Research supports spiral review, because giving students another opportunity to practice, keeps their skills fresh.
The schedule below can be used if you are using this daily.
- Monday begins with a short, high-interest reading passage.
- Tuesday-Thursday will require students to work on reading skills and strategies related to the passage.
- On Friday, students will complete a short writing piece based on the passage.
In addition, the bundle includes a student glossary of terms and a helpful recordkeeping chart to keep track of the skills being reviewed.
How long will each activity take?
If it is completed daily, each activity will take about 5-8 minutes. If you would like to review the answers as a class, you’ll need a few more minutes for that.
If you decide to assign each mini-unit at once, all five activities will take about 35-45 minutes.
Look at the individual resources included, as well as the previews. They paint a good picture of what you will be getting with this bundle.
Thank you!
Enjoy!
