How does it work?

Mondays begin with a short, high-interest reading passage. On Tuesday -Thursday, students will work on reading skills and strategies related to the passage. Then on Friday, students will complete a short writing piece based on the passage.

Alternatively, you can easily assign one reading comprehension passage as a mini-unit. Just give students all of the reading and writing activities together at the same time. It will take 35-45 minutes that way.

How long will each activity take?

If it is completed daily, each activity will take about 5-8 minutes. If you would like to review the answers as a class, you’ll need a few more minutes for that.

If you decide to assign each mini-unit at once, all five activities will take about 35-45 minutes.
